Pistachios in the News!
September is a great month for sports! Football season officially kicks off and baseball playoffs are just around the corner. Whether you’re tailgating before the big game, cheering on your favorite team from the stands or having some friends over to watch on the big screen, there are plenty of healthful snacks you can munch on instead of the typical game time fare.
Try a few of these palate-pleasing snacks for your gameday:
- Get dipping: Instead of going for the usual chip and dip contenders, bring in some fresh and light flavors. Veggies such as bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots pair great with hummus or a homemade dip prepared with non-fat Greek yogurt. Or, try homemade tortilla chips or baked potato wedges with fresh salsa.
- Pistachios: Pistachios may help promote “mindful” eating – since you crack open the shells, it may take you longer to eat them and the empty shells may be a visual cue of how many you’ve consumed. Not to mention, a full serving of pistachios, about 49 pistachios, has more protein and fewer calories than most other snack nuts.
- Bite-size food on a stick: Food served on a stick is a sure crowd pleaser. Serve up some fresh fruit kabobs with a Greek yogurt dipping sauce, grilled vegetable and chicken kabobs or spicy turkey meatballs on a skewer.
