We’ve all been there – you’re in the middle of a busy day at work, the vending machine is right down the hall, and all you want is the first treat you spot, no matter how unhealthy it is.

To avoid last-minute overindulging, try keeping your hunger at bay throughout the day. Small, satisfying snacks peppered throughout your day can make a huge difference – the right foods can sustain your energy level and help you power through your work day.

Here are 5 on-the-job snack ideas that put the “wellness” back in “workplace wellness”:

Low-fat yogurt + steel cut oats: This makes for a perfect “second breakfast.” You get a combination of calcium, protein and fiber, and the oats add a crunchy texture to the cool, refreshing yogurt. Yum!

Veggies + lemon juice: Baby carrots, celery, broccoli and cauliflower may not be exciting on their own, but squeeze a bit of lemon juice on this mix and poof! You’ve got a palate-pleasing, healthy dose of vegetables to get you through your mid-afternoon meeting.

Green tea: Healthy beverages and snacking go hand-in-hand. Instead of reaching for that soda that could contain as much as 33 grams of sugar1, try a cup of green tea. According to WebMD.com, green tea has important antioxidants and compounds that help in maintaining good health.

In-shell pistachios: These tasty nuts full of fiber may help promote a workday filled “mindful” eating – since you have to crack open the shells, it may just take you longer to eat them. Plus, the empty shells may be a visual cue of how many you’ve consumed.

Popcorn + cocoa powder: Looking to satisfy that afternoon sweet tooth? Try sprinkling 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder over a small bowl of popcorn to enjoy at your desk. It’s quick, easy and it will make the break room smell fabulous to boot.
