Happy World Vegetarian Day! Today is World Vegetarian Day and it kicks off a whole month of plant-based goodness with Vegetarian Awareness Month. Here at Pistachio Health Institute, we recognize the important role of nuts such as pistachios as a heart-healthy and nutritious protein source in plant-based diets.

A vegetarian diet focuses on plants as food including fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, beans and seeds. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010, the evidence documenting a beneficial impact of plant-based dietary patterns on heart health is remarkable and worthy of a recommendation.¹ Sounds great to us! Add 1-2 ounces of nuts, such as pistachios, to a plant-based diet for a delicious, nutrient-rich way to eat right, and feel great.
