After working hard at R&R 101 over the summer, the busy whirlwind of the school year is almost here again. As we enjoy the last lazy days of summer, we’re also thinking about dusting off those backpacks and lunch boxes and making plans for back-to-school and after-school activities.

But before we forsake poolside for carpool, there’s still time for a few relaxed summer get-togethers. The days are still long and the weather scorching, so snacks should be simple to prepare – without turning on the oven, and of course, without sacrificing the taste factor.

Whether you’re hosting a late summer soiree, or getting together with school friends, you don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. We have some great snack pairing ideas for you, and it all starts with having a bag of pistachios on hand – the anytime secret snacking weapon. Pistachios are a great way to get plant-based protein, fiber, vitamin B6, phosphorus and thiamin, offering both savory, crunchy eating pleasure and nutritional benefits.

Keep it simple. Simple pairings are the easiest and, often, the most delicious. Pairing salty, crunchy pistachios with the last of summer’s fresh fruit is snacking you can feel good about. In addition to being full of flavor and nutrition-packed, roasted and salted pistachios provide important electrolytes such as sodium and potassium. And now, with flavored pistachios, such as Sweet Chili or Salt & Pepper, you can offer guests a variety of savory-sweet options.

Simple Snacking Ideas:

  • Pistachios + Chilled Watermelon Chunks
  • Pistachios + Sliced Nectarines or Peaches
  • Pistachios + Whole, Fresh Strawberries

Kick it up a notch. Looking for an upscale snack but don’t want to completely sacrifice nutrition? Here are some delicious, elevated snack pairings that border on the decadent but are easy to prepare and serve.

Elevated Snacking Ideas:

  • Pistachios + Sesame Noodle Sticks + Wasabi Peas
  • Pistachios (and/or Sweet Chili Pistachios) + Lime Tortilla Chips + Watermelom
  • Pistachios + Aged Gouda + Sweet Apple Wedges with a Drizzle of Honey
  • Pistachios + Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies + Fresh Strawberries

Which of these snack ideas is your favorite?
